Piyush Pandey was an advertising guru who reshaped and redefined Indian advertising for nearly forty years. He started his career in advertising at the age of 27 by joining Ogilvy after a brief experience as a cricketer. He handled many brand campaigns such as Asian Paints, Cadbury, Fevicol, Hutch and transformed them into cultural landmarks. He also campaigned for the BJP and coined popular slogans like ‘Abki Baar Modi Sarkar’ and ‘Achche Din Aanewale Hain’. He wrote the lyrics for "Mile Sur Mera Tumhara" (When our tunes merge), the iconic 1988 song promoting national integration that became a near-anthem for India on Doordarshan. He dabbled with Hindi cinema too where he played a small role in Shoojit Sircar’s ‘Madras Café’ and wrote the screenplay for ‘Bhopal Express’ in 1999. He passed away on 24 October 2025 at the age of 70.
