Sarzameen is an action thriller set against the backdrop of the Indian Army’s fight against terrorism in the Kashmir valley. Colonel Vijay Menon (Prithviraj Sukumaran) is an upright army officer who will stop at nothing to free the Kashmir valley from terrorism, even if it means paying a terrible price. Colonel Vijay Menon lives with his wife Meher Menon (Kajol) and son, Harman Menon (Ibrahim Ali Khan), who is an introvert and often bullied by his classmates. One day, Vijay captures a dreaded terrorist in an encounter and is asked to release the latter in exchange for his son, Harman. At the point of exchange, an encounter leads to Harman's disappearance, who is made to take shelter within the same terrorist group that trains him to join the war against the freedom of Kashmir. After eight years, Harman meets his father, saying that he had escaped from the clutches of the militant group. Does Vijay Menon believe his son, or has Harman returned to seek vengeance from his father, all this is revealed in the remaining plot of the story.
